3 GENERATIONS SINCE 1936 LEES & CO. is one of the first-rate patent offices in the world. The office was founded in 1936 as a forerunner in Korea by Mr. Lee, Yeong Woo, who had majored in Law at Chuo University in Japan and qualified as a patent and trademark attorney in 1930. He was also well known for his own library in the field of intellectual property laws, contributing greatly to Korean patent systems found in the chronicle of the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). Mr. Lee, Yeong Woo’s son took over the office in 1969, continuing until today. Mr. Lee, Hoon qualified as a patent and trademark attorney in 1964, topping the 1st Korean Patent Bar Examination. Since then, the office witnessed steady growth. Mr. Lee, Hoon’s son and Mr. Lee, Yeong Woo’s grandson, Dr. Lee, Doo Hee also qualified as a patent and trademark attorney in 2002 and joined the office in 2003. Thus, three generations of running the family business for over 70 years has added to the prestige of the office. This is a first in Korea, and a very rare case in the world.
