The
Madrid Protocol, an international trademark
application system, has entered into force
on April 10, 2003.
The Madrid system is the international trademark
application system, which streamlines international
application procedures for trademarks and
service marks, and enables trademarks registered
in the contracting countries to be managed
collectively by the International Register.
In the past, applicants had to apply for international
trademarks in the language of the country
where the application was filed. Applicants,
now, apply for international trademarks with
a more convenient procedure and lower expenses.
A single trade mark application submitted
to KIPO in English can be filed designating
one or more countries which adopt the Madrid
Protocol. |
